New Zealand will host Sri Lanka for a three-match T20I series, starting December 28 at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui. The hosts will miss the service of some of the senior cricketers as Kane Williamson and Devon Conway have opted out while Lockie Ferguson is still with a calf injury. Finn Allen is currently playing in the Big Bash League (BBL) and is unavailable as well.
In their absence, Mitchell Santner will be leading the side in the T20I and ODI series, the latter of which will begin on January 5 and will be played at Wellington, Hamilton and Auckland. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, will be confident of their chances. They have had a terrific 2024 and will be hoping to end the season on a higher note.
The Charith Asalanka-led side defeated the New Zealand XI in the two warm-up games they played earlier and most of the players looked in great touch. They played an attacking brand of cricket as Pathum Nissanka led from the front. Wanindu Hasaranga meanwhile was fantastic with the ball in the first game and will be key in the entire series.
