Namibia have announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024 on May 10, Friday. The event is set to take place from June 1 to 29 in the United States of America and the Caribbean. Namibia will participate in the T20 World Cup for the third time in a row. They failed to qualify for the tournament from 2007 to 2016 but finally made it to the event in 2021.

Gerhard Erasmus has been selected to lead Namibia in the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Allrounder, JJ Smit, has been appointed as the vice-captain. Out of the 15 players who played in the T20 World Cup qualifier last year, twelve have been included in the squad for the main tournament. The three players who have been left out of the squad are – Nicol Loftie-Eaton, Pikky Ya France, and Shawn Fouche.

Namibia have included seamer Dylan Leicher and pacers Ruben Trumpelmann and Jack Brassell in their squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 as new faces. Namibia are placed in Group B for the tournament along with defending champions England, and 2021 winners Australia, Oman, and Scotland.

Namibia eye a statement comeback on a global stage

Namibia had participated in the 2022 edition as well. Despite registering a remarkable 55-run triumph over former champions Sri Lanka, they failed to progress past the group stage. However, for the upcoming edition, Namibia have qualified in a dominant fashion. They qualified for the 2024 T20 World Cup after an impressive unbeaten run at last year’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier, which was held on their home soil.
