Jofra Archer’s tweets have been popular among cricket aficionados, especially since the time he started playing cricket at the highest level. On several occasions, his old tweets have matched present situations. One such instance popped up on Wednesday, April 8, after Delhi Capitals lost to the Gujarat Titans by one run.
David Miller held the hopes of the Capitals as they were chasing a daunting target of 211 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. In the last over, the Axar Patel-led side needed 13 runs. Shubman Gill handed the ball to Prasidh Krishna, who had the responsibility of taking his team to their first win of the season.
Despite losing one wicket, the Capitals managed to aggregate 11 runs off the first four balls. With a well-set Miller on strike, getting two runs off as many balls seemed to be a walk in the park. However, an error in judgement from the southpaw cost his team.
On the fifth ball, Miller had a chance to take a single and level the scores. However, he decided not to give Kuldeep Yadav the strike and backed himself to finish the match off the last ball. This move, however, fell flat, as Krishna bowled a slower short ball which Miller failed to pull. Kuldeep rushed towards the striker’s end to sneak in a bye but Jos Buttler was sharp behind the stumps as he caught the wrist spinner short of his crease with a direct hit.
Miller was distraught after the Capitals lost the match by one run. Since that result, experts like Murali Kartik and Harbhajan Singh have slammed the 36-year-old for his decision of not taking the single off the penultimate delivery.
“Miller mad? Cricket at 11:30,” Archer had wrote in a tweet back in 2013. This old tweet went viral on social media after the match concluded.
The past tweet had a reference to David Miller and a late night cricket match in a tweet that came when South Africa lost narrowly by one run in Gqeberha against Pakistan in an ODI where Miller was on strike for the last ball, and wasn’t able to take his team over the line.
