Michael Vaughan has ranked the 2027 Ashes at home as the most straightforward of three major Test assignments facing England in the coming years. The five-match series will begin at Trent Bridge on June 18, with subsequent fixtures scheduled at Lord’s, Edgbaston, Utilita Bowl and Kia Oval. Vaughan’s assessment places this home series ahead of England’s away tours to South Africa and Bangladesh in terms of difficulty and challenge.

The former England captain outlined his reasoning while discussing the three series on the Stick to Cricket Podcast. England will face South Africa for three Tests and Bangladesh for two Tests away from home before returning to host Australia in the United Kingdom. Vaughan provided a detailed comparison of these three assignments, weighing the strengths of each opponent and the conditions England would encounter.

“England plays South Africa for three, Bangladesh for two away. From what I see already, I think the Aussie series next summer, the five here in the UK. I think of those three series, it (the Ashes) the easiest,” said Vaughan on the podcast.

Why does Vaughan rate the 2027 Ashes as England’s easiest assignment?

Vaughan’s confidence in England’s chances against Australia rests on a significant historical advantage. The last time Australia won an Ashes series in England was in 2001, more than 25 years before the 2027 fixture. This unbeaten home record against Australia forms the cornerstone of Vaughan’s assessment when comparing the three series.

“We haven’t lost against Australia here in the UK since 2001. I am not wrong. That’s the easiest of the three series,” Vaughan said.

In contrast, Vaughan acknowledged the formidable challenges posed by South Africa and Bangladesh.

“South Africa away from home, they are the best team in the world, Bangladesh in their own backyard, two Tests on dusty ones, we are not picking our best spinner… and then Australia at home,” Vaughan concluded.
