Lauren Filer expressed her ambition of wanting to break the 80 mph speed barrier with the ball to make a statement involving how bowlers in women’s cricket were well and truly capable of attaining the feat. She wanted the entire community of women’s cricket to strive for the goal.
This comes after she broke into the top 10 fastest overs (in terms of average speed) to be bowled in women’s cricket for the third time during the ongoing five-match T20I series between England Women and India Women.
“It’s not necessarily a personal milestone for myself, but actually proving women can get to that milestone, and hopefully others can follow as well. I don’t want it just to be one or two people—we want loads of women to be able to be bowling at that speed,” shared Filer, as quoted by BBC.
“I think after Friday, people are probably talking about it more than they were and hopefully, if I can hit it, [80mph], then it encourages other people to try to aim for that and actually make the game even more exciting than it already is,” she added.

England and India are scheduled to take on each other in the fourth T20I of the series on Wednesday, July 9. The visitors are currently in a lead after winning the first couple of games. England, on the back of a superb opening partnership in the first innings, were able to clinch a narrow triumph in the third match. They would be aiming at drawing things level for the final match to be the decider, post which it will be the time for 50-over fixtures to take over.
