Ahead of play in Match 57 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, players and support staff from Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) came together to pay tribute to the Indian Armed Forces. The gesture was made after the success of Operation Sindoor, a retaliatory military response to the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians on April 22.
The Indian military launched Operation Sindoor in the early hours of May 7, targeting terror infrastructure across nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). These strikes were in reply to the brutal Pahalgam attack, which claimed the lives of 25 Indian tourists and a Nepali citizen.
Meanwhile, before the two sides took the field, they proudly stood in silence as the national anthem played with the giant screen displaying the message “Proud of the Indian Armed Forces.”

Meanwhile, KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane called it correctly at the toss and elected to bat first. The hosts made a solid start despite missing Venkatesh Iyer due to injury. Rahane led from the front, while Sunil Narine added 26 before falling to Noor Ahmad.
At the end of 10 overs, KKR had posted 87/3, scoring at a run rate of 8.70 with Manish Pandey partnering with Rahane in the middle. CSK, already eliminated from playoff contention, experimented with their lineup, giving a debut to Urvil Patel and recalling Devon Conway and Ravi Ashwin. Noor Ahmad was the standout bowler in the early overs, taking two wickets for just 11 runs.
