West Indies legendary batter Kieron Pollard reclaimed the record for the most runs in T20 cricket on August 28, 2026, reaching 14,921 career runs during a Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2026 fixture at Brian Lara Stadium. Representing Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) against Saint Lucia Kings (SLK), Pollard struck 65 off 26 deliveries, with six boundaries and five sixes at a strike rate of 250, moving past wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler’s tally of 14,833 runs. TKR are sixth in the points table with one win from four games.

Buttler had taken the record from Pollard on August 5, 2026, surpassing the West Indian’s then-tally of 14,803 runs while playing for Manchester Super Giants (MSG) against Welsh Fire (WEF) in The Hundred Men’s 2026. At that point, Buttler had accumulated 14,833 runs across 522 T20 matches, while Pollard had reached 14,803 from 746 appearances. The record has now changed hands twice within the same calendar year, with Pollard back at the summit.

How does Pollard’s CPL 2026 knock add to his T20 legacy?

The five sixes Pollard hit during his CPL 2026 innings took his career tally of maximums to 1,010, placing him among only two players in T20 history to cross the 1,000-six mark. Left-handed opener Chris Gayle is the other batter to have reached that milestone.

The right-handed batter had also overtaken Gayle earlier in 2026 to become the format’s leading run-scorer before Buttler moved ahead of him in August. His return to the top of the all-time list means he has held the record on multiple occasions within a single year, underlining the consistency and longevity that have defined his T20 career across franchise leagues worldwide.
