Openers KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal were in sound touch, as they saw through the Australian bowling attack on Day 2 of the Perth Test, on Saturday, November 23. India bowled out the hosts for 104 runs and generated a vital lead of 46 runs. Rahul along with Jaiswal opened the innings and refused to budge as the Australians posed questions with a long spell of bowling.

The duo remained unbeaten on 62 and 90 runs, respectively, as at the end of Stumps on Day 2, Team India were 172/0, with 218 runs lead on the board. Former India pacer, Dodda Ganesh, took notice of Rahul’s innings and opined that Rohit Sharma should bat in the middle order and let the Karnataka batter open the innings for India alongside Jaiswal.

“Just have KL Rahul opening throughout the tour. For heavens sake don’t shuffle his spot again. He’s the best bet to handle the conditions with the new ball. Rohit can bat in the middle order #AUSvIND,” Dodda Ganesh wrote in his ‘X’ post.

“This opening partnership has to stay and Rohit will have to bat in the middle order. Hopefully, common sense prevails #AUSvIND #BorderGavaskarTrophy,” he continued in another tweet.

Here’s Dodda Ganesh’s latest post on ‘X’:

Meanwhile, Rahul and Jaiswal’s unbeaten 172-run stand in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2024-25), broke several records as the duo stayed at the crease unbeaten and faced the most number of overs for the first wickets in Australia since the year 2000. Their 150+ runs partnership was also the first in Australia for the first wicket Andrew Strauss and Alastair Cook’s 159-run stand at the MCG in 2010.
