Josh Hazlewood ruled out of T20 World Cup 2026, Australia to go ahead without replacement

Josh Hazlewood ruled out of T20 World Cup 2026, Australia to go ahead without replacement

Experienced pace bowler Josh Hazlewood has officially been ruled out of Australia’s squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026. Cricket Australia confirmed the development just a day ahead of the commencement of the twenty-team tournament.

Australia chief selector Tony Dodemaide revealed that the Aussies were hopeful of Hazlewood’s readiness ahead of the business end of the tournament, but the bowler will now take even longer to recuperate from his injury. Meanwhile, the Australians are in no hurry to name a replacement and will do so only when absolutely required during the latter stages of the global event.

“We were hopeful Josh would be back to match fitness by the Super Eights stage, but the latest indications (are) he is still some time away. Trying to accelerate his programme will carry too much of a risk. We will not be naming a replacement player immediately. We feel we are well covered for the initial games so will make any later decisions based on priority need at the time,” Dodemaide said, as quoted by cricket.com.au.

David, Zampa, Ellis declared fit

In positive developments, star players Tim David and Nathan Ellis have been declared as fit by the Australian management ahead of the league stage. On the other hand, veteran spinner Adam Zampa, too, has been declared to be available for Australia’s tournament opener in a Group B contest against Ireland on February 11.
