Cheteshwar Pujara shared his feelings while watching the start of the Ranji Trophy from the sidelines after announcing his retirement from all forms of Indian cricket earlier this year. On August 24, the right-handed batter took to social media to announce his decision to step away from the beautiful game.

During his illustrious career, Pujara was a prolific performer in red-ball cricket, especially in the Ranji Trophy, the premier first-class cricket tournament in India. He has the joint-most double hundreds in the Ranji Trophy, having registered the feat on nine occasions.

As the 91st season of the Ranji Trophy got underway on Wednesday, October 15, the 37-year-old admitted that it feels odd for him to not be a part of it. However, he decided to take a trip down memory lane, thinking about the fond memories, playing for Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy since his debut in 2005. The Rajkot-born also wished the players competing in the 2025-26 season the very best.

Pujara played 103 Tests for India. He cemented his place as India’s No. 3 batter after Rahul Dravid’s retirement. Pujara finished with 7195 runs in the longest format of the game, averaging an impressive 43.61. He registered 35 fifties and 19 centuries in his career.

After calling time on his playing career, the stalwart has ventured into commentary. His in-depth knowledge and years of playing experience provide fans with terrific insight into the game.
