Chennai Super Kings (CSK) suffered their fourth defeat in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 on Saturday, April 18. The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) defeated them by 10 runs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
Ruturaj Gaikwad won the toss on Saturday and opted to bowl first. Abhishek Sharma got his team off to a flying start, while Travis Head struggled to get himself in at the crease. Mukesh Choudhary struck twice in the last over of power play, dismissing Travis Head and Ishan Kishan off consecutive deliveries.
Abhishek slammed a 22-ball 59 before getting dismissed in the eighth over. Aniket Verma and Nitish Kumar Reddy departed cheaply, and Heinrich Klaasen came as the saviour for the Sunrisers. The wicketkeeper-batter held the innings together until Anshul Kamboj sent him packing for a 39-ball 59 in the 18th over.
Shivang Kumar and Salil Arora tried hard but the CSK death bowling, led by Kamboj did well to concede just 17 runs in the last three overs. The hosts finished on 194/9 in their 20 overs.
In reply, Sanju Samson was dismissed in the second over. Ayush Mhatre and Ruturaj Gaikwad forged a stunning partnership, with the former doing most of the damage. The partnership amassed 51 runs off just 21 balls. However, both of them were dismissed in quick succession.
Matthew Short and Sarfaraz Khan stitched 46 runs off 33 balls to keep CSK afloat. However, they lost two wickets once again in a quick span. Matthew Short and Shivam Dube tried to keep CSK in the hunt but once they were dismissed in the 16th and 17th over, respectively, Jamie Overton and Anshul Kamboj were left in a huge task. CSK needed another 41 runs in 19 balls. Overton and Kamboj added 28 off 17 balls but it wasn’t enough to take the five-time champions home. In the end, the visitors finished on 184/8.

Heinrich Klaasen scores another crucial half-century
Heinrich Klaasen is not just a batter who can change the shape of the ball with his ferocious ball-striking. He is a complete package, a batter who can adjust his game according to the conditions. He knew his wicket was crucial, batting alongside a fairly inexperienced lower order. Klaasen took calculated risks along the way to finish on 59 off 39 balls, hitting six fours and two sixes.

Eshan Malinga bowls match-winning spell, Ruturaj Gaikwad’s dismal form continues
Eshan Malinga had a brilliant outing on Saturday. In the last few games, he leaked a lot of runs but against the Super Kings, he brought his A-game to the fore. The Sri Lankan seamer took the wicket of Ruturaj with his first ball. Matthew Short and Sarfaraz Khan looked well set, but Malinga dismissed them both. In the end, the 25-year-old finished with figures of 3/29 in four overs and won the Player of the Match award.
