Mumbai Indians (MI) take on Punjab Kings (PBKS)  at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala, on Thursday, May 14.

The five-time champions are having a horrific season in IPL 2026, as they are already out of the competition with three games to spare. In their first 11 matches, MI have managed to win just three matches, while losing the remaining eight. Despite being out of the playoffs race, the upcoming game gives them an opportunity to try and build combinations for the next season.

Punjab Kings, on the other hand, have six wins and four defeats from 11 matches. However, they are coming into this clash on the back of four back-to-back defeats. Hence, the pressure is immense on the 2025 finalists to deliver in this crucial encounter.

Here is MI’s strongest predicted XI vs RCB for Match 54, IPL 2026:

Top Order: Ryan Rickelton (WK), Rohit Sharma (IMP), Naman Dhir

The opening pair of Rohit Sharma, and Ryan Rickelton will continue their campaign against Punjab. The pair has been successful in giving their team some solid starts to their team in IPL 2026, but are not consistent enough.

Former MI captain Rohit Sharma will come in as an impact sub during the chase. Ryan Rickelton has been MI’s best batters, scoring 382 runs so far. He has been stunning in the powerplays. Naman Dhir will continue to bat at number 3, and has played some good knocks so far.

Middle Order: Suryakumar Yadav (C), Tilak Varma, Will Jacks, Raj Bawa, Corbin Bosch

Suryakumar Yadav will continue to lead the side in absence of MI’s regular skipper Hardik Pandya. The right-hander is having a poor season, scoring just 195 runs in 11 innings, which has been one of the main reasons for MI’s poor form in IPL 2026. Tilak Varma will need to up his game, especially in the middle-overs.

Will Jacks is having a mixed season so far, but adds depth in the squad with his all-round presence. Raj Bawa, despite that heartbreaking over against RCB, will be backed by MI management. Corbin Bosch was sensational against RCB with the ball, and gives this side a solid option.

Bowlers: Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar, AM Ghazanfar, Jasprit Bumrah

MI’s bowling has let them down in this season, especially the two senior pros: Jasprit Bumrah and Deepak Chahar. They have failed to pick up wickets with the new ball in this season.

Chahar had a good outing against RCB and would want to keep up the good form. Bumrah, on the other hand, despite being economical, has picked up just three wickets so far.

AM Ghazanfar is by far MI’s best bowler this season, and has impressed with his mystery spin. Shardul Thakur could also be given a chance in the match.

MI’s predicted playing XI vs PBKS in Match 58, IPL 2026:

Ryan Rickelton (wk), Naman Dhir, Suryakumar Yadav (capt), Tilak Varma, Will Jacks, Raj Bawa, Corbin Bosch, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar, AM Ghazanfar, Jasprit Bumrah

Impact Player: Rohit Sharma
