Punjab Kings are still unbeaten in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 as they ensured a comprehensive win against Lucknow Super Giants in Match 29 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh on Sunday, April 19. PBKS won by 54 runs and went to the top of the table.
When it came to the first innings, Prabhsimran Singh fell to Mohammed Shami on the first ball itself, departing for a golden duck, but Priyansh Arya took no time to settle his eyes in and started smashing the ball all round the park. Cooper Connolly joined him in the middle and followed a sedated approach to get his feet in the middle.
The Arya-Connolly duo took LSG bowlers to cleaners, putting on an unbelievable stand of 182 runs off just 80 balls, with both batters falling a few short of their respective hundreds. Once the two were dismissed, Marcus Stoinis and Shashank Singh took PBKS’ total to 254-7 at the end of their 20 overs, where Prince Yadav stood out for his couple of wickets, giving only 25 runs in four overs.
LSG’s reply started with Mitchell Marsh and Ayush Badoni adding 61 runs for the opening stand, but the Indian youngster fell to Vijaykumar Vyshak on the last ball of the powerplay. From there, LSG never looked comfortable in the chase, and wickets started coming at regular intervals. Captain Rishabh Pant and vice-captain Aiden Markram did try to keep the scoreboard ticking but could not keep up with the required rate.
Marco Jansen was the most impressive bowler for Punjab, as only five wickets fell in the second innings, courtesy of as many as five dropped catches. However, the game was already in tight control of the hosts, and they carried the momentum from the previous matches to register yet another win. They now have 11 points after six games and ensured a comprehensive victory, just what captain Shreyas Iyer wanted.
