Overview

Three-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) face the 2016 winners Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in match 6 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on Thursday, April 2.

KKR will look to bounce back strongly after starting their campaign with a six-wicket defeat to the Mumbai Indians in an away fixture. SRH also started with a loss by six wickets to defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Both teams have some formidable batters in their ranks. However, the bowlers will have to pull their socks up and come out all guns blazing after a disappointing start to the campaign.

Predicted Impact Players for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)

Kartik Tyagi: Kartik Tyagi came in as the Impact Player in KKR’s bowling innings, replacing Finn Allen. He bowled a gutsy spell in unfavourable conditions. His mix of yorkers and slower deliveries at the back end of the Mumbai Indians’ innings was impressive.

Manish Pandey: Manish Pandey might be one of the most senior cricketers in the league this season, but he continues to be among the finest fielders. If KKR suffers a collapse while batting first, he could be brought in.

Rovman Powell: Rovman Powell has been in fine form in international cricket as well as in franchise leagues. The Caribbean all-rounder will be eager to make his debut for the franchise.

Tejasvi Dahiya: Tejasvi Dahiya is a wicketkeeper-batter who likes to play aggressive shots against spin and pace. He can also play unorthodox shots, which disrupt the lines and lengths of the bowlers.

Saurabh Dubey: Saurabh Dubey is a talented left-arm seamer who joined the team late as an injury replacement for Akash Deep. His 6’5” frame could cause problems for batters, especially on the Eden Gardens wicket, where the ball should carry nicely.

Predicted Impact Players for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

David Payne: David Payne came in as the Impact Player in the last game for SRH. The left-arm seamer from England bagged two wickets on his debut but went for a lot of runs.

Shivang Kumar: The left-arm wrist spinner from Madhya Pradesh has a bright future. He might not get his chance immediately, but don’t be surprised to see him playing a part for SRH later in the campaign.

Liam Livingstone: Liam Livingstone hasn’t been at his best in the last few seasons of the IPL. However, a player of his stature can take the game away from the opposition in quick time when he is on song. However, it will be difficult for him to break into a side which has some renowned overseas stars.

Smaran Ravichandran: Karnataka’s Smaran Ravichandran is a left-handed batter who averages 48.90 in T20 cricket and strikes at 162.45. He is just 22 years old and can be a player for the long haul for the Orange Army.

Sakib Hussain: Sakib Hussain, the right-arm speedster from Bihar, could get a go against his former IPL team. He can bowl at good pace, and his tall frame will help him get considerable bounce. It will be interesting to see if Kishan and Co. bring him into the line-up on Thursday.

Expert Opinion and Final Prediction

  • Home Advantage: KKR’s playing at Chinnaswamy Stadium gives them a significant edge.
  • Recent Form: KKR have won four games out of the last five against SRH.
  • Balanced Side: Both sides are strong in the batting department, but the bowling lineup isn’t as formidable. However, the presence of Varun Chakaravarthy and Sunil Narine gives KKR more of an edge.

Prediction: With these factors in their favour, Kolkata Knight Riders are likely to win the match.
