The 11-run loss suffered by Rajasthan Royals to Royal Challengers Bengaluru saw RR’s woes intensify as far as the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League is concerned. This was also the third consecutive time this season that they lost a run chase after being comfortably positioned for most parts of the second innings. However, the loss to RCB at the Chinnaswamy meant they matched an unfortunate IPL record.

This was only the second instance in the franchise’s IPL history that they got defeated in five games on the trot. The five-game losing streak marks their worst one. The only other occurrence came during the 2009 and 2010 installments, when RR were defeated in their final couple of group-stage games in 2009 and their first three fixtures of 2010.

As a consequence, RR have lost five successive matches in a single season for the very first time. They have finished rock bottom in 2020 and second from last in 2010, 2019, and 2021, respectively. However, in neither of the previously-mentioned seasons did the inaugural champions of the IPL suffer five back-to-back defeats in a single season.

RR have been on a winless streak since their 50-run win against Punjab Kings on Saturday, April 5. The following table depicts the results of the games RR have played ever since:

Opposition    Venue First Innings Second Innings Result
Gujarat Titans Ahmedabad GT: 217/6 (20) RR: 159/10 (19.2) GT won by 58 runs
Royal Challengers Bengaluru Jaipur RR: 173/4 (20) RCB: 175/1 (17.3) RCB won by nine wickets
Delhi Capitals Delhi DC: 188/5 (20) RR: 188/4 (20) DC won the Super Over
Lucknow Super Giants Jaipur LSG: 180/5 (20) RR: 178/5 (20) LSG won by two runs
Royal Challengers Bengaluru Bengaluru RCB: 205/5 (20) RR: 194/9 (20) RCB won by 11 runs

RR’s next couple of games are at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium against Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians, respectively. The matches are scheduled for April 28 and May 1, respectively. RR find themselves at eighth position ahead of Match 43 of IPL 2025.
