IPL 2025 restart: Final likely to be rescheduled, players asked to reassemble

IPL 2025 restart Final likely to be rescheduled, players asked to reassemble

The apex cricket governing body, BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India), is understood to extend the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) till May 30 once the tournament resumes after the current break. Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad are the three venues that the BCCI is contemplating as hosts for the remainder of the games, starting from May 16. The fresh schedule will be revealed to the franchises by Sunday, May 11.

The governing body has asked all the sides, except the Punjab Kings (PBKS), to head back to their respective home venues by Tuesday, May 13. Most of the overseas contingent and support staff left for their homes after the BCCI officially called off the IPL 2025 on Friday, May 9. The BCCI has informed franchises to update their overseas players regarding their travel plans. An increased number of double-headers are in the pipeline due to the time crunch.

“As the IPL was suspended for a week, there is a possibility of the IPL final now being played on May 30 instead of May 25 with limited venues. The schedule will be sent to all IPL teams by tonight. All franchises have been told to inform its team to report to their respective destination by Tuesday,” stated a source in the BCCI, as quoted by The Indian Express.

The Chairperson of the IPL, Arun Dhumal, expressed his hope of resuming the IPL after a ceasefire was announced by India and Pakistan amid heated political tensions.

“Ceasefire has just been announced. We now explore the possibility of resuming and concluding the IPL if it is possible to conduct it immediately. We need to work out the venue dates and everything, and we would now be speaking to all the stakeholders, including team owners, broadcasters, and everyone involved and find a way as to how to move forward. Most importantly, we will have to consult with the government,” Dhumal stated.

IPL 2025 game was called off due to floodlight failure and security concerns

Match 58 of IPL 2025 was called off due to a technical failure in the floodlights, as well as security concerns. The final decision regarding the aforementioned venues will be taken by the BCCI in consultation with the relevant authorities of the Indian government. As per the original schedule, the tournament final was set to be held at Eden Gardens on Sunday, May 25.
