The cricket thrill is soaring high as the IPL 2025 (Indian Premier League) caravan moves ahead to Match 20. The upcoming fixture will witness the hosts Mumbai Indians (MI) clashing with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Notably, the game will be played at the renowned Wankhede Stadium, on Monday, April 7.

The fixture holds special significance for both teams. However, Lady Luck has not smiled on RCB at this venue for almost over a decade time. It often serves as a melancholic reminder for Bengaluru fans when it comes to their beloved franchise clashing against arch-rivals, Mumbai.

RCB last won at Wankhede in 2015

The last time the Virat Kohli-led side won at the iconic venue was in 2015. In that game, the skipper led from the front with the bat, along with his former legendary partner, AB de Villiers.

It was May 10 when both batting maestros dismantled the Mumbai bowlers en route to posting a gigantic score of 235, losing just one wicket. The match turned into a high-scoring affair as MI too nearly reached 200 runs, eventually losing by a 39-run margin.

The duo batted through most of the innings, with ABD scoring a fiery unbeaten 133* off just 59 balls, even scooping yorkers with ease. Kohli played the perfect partner, smashing an unbeaten 82* from 50 deliveries. Together, they stitched a mammoth 215-run stand – the second-highest partnership in league history. Their carnage of 25 fours and eight sixes left pacers like Lasith Malinga and Jasprit Bumrah looking pale.

Can RCB End Their Wankhede Drought in 2025?

The Bengaluru-based franchise have struggled to find rhythm over the years at Mumbai’s famous venue. While Virat Kohli is now in the twilight of his career and AB de Villiers has already retired from the IPL, the current form has surely ignited hope for RCB. Rajat Patidar is their new captain, under whom they’ve done fairly well in the ongoing IPL 2025 season.

Hence, the April 7 fixture offers yet another opportunity to breach the MI fortress. Will Virat Kohli and Co. change their fortunes and break the Wankhede jinx? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
