The in-form and smoothly cruising Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will gear up to take on a wounded Chennai Super Kings (CSK) outfit that has nothing to lose in Match 52 of the ongoing IPL 2025 (Indian Premier League). Currently, CSK are one of the two teams to be fully eliminated from the ongoing IPL season. RCB, on the other hand, are primed to make the playoffs, and a win here will strengthen their chances of finishing in the top two.

Chennai’s last game – a home loss to Punjab Kings – sealed their fate as the first team to be eliminated from IPL 2025. Sam Curran held firm through the struggles of his teammates to make a wonderful 88. CSK looked to capitalise on his knock, but Yuzvendra Chahal took four wickets, including a hat-trick, in the penultimate over. CSK were bowled out in the next, having lost their last five wickets for six runs in six balls.

PBKS’ innings started in blazing fashion, with Prabhsimran Singh scoring a fifty to set the team on the path to victory. Shreyas Iyer then picked up the tempo with his own fifty, and with Shashank Singh’s finishing, the result became a formality. CSK struck back with a few wickets, but it was too little, too late as Punjab got home in the final over.

RCB settled their scores with DC from earlier in the season in their last game, with a tense finish in Delhi. Abhishek Porel started off explosively, but Krunal Pandya and Suyash Sharma controlled the middle order. Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s death-over burst was countered by Tristan Stubbs’ late flourish, but DC managed only 162.

RCB were left reeling at the start, as Axar Patel dismissed Jacob Bethell and Devdutt Padikkal in the same over. Rajat Patidar was run out in the next over, and DC suddenly had full control. Pandya joined Virat Kohli at the crease, and the two were scratchy but cautious in stabilising RCB. As the run rate climbed, Krunal found the fence at the right moments, with Kohli standing like a rock at the other end. Both eventually completed the fifties to put the game in RCB’s grasp. Tim David applied the finishing touches, and RCB made it six out of six in away games this season.

As the points table stands, RCB will move back to the top if they win this game. RCB had outplayed CSK in the reverse fixture in Chennai. Phil Salt and Devdutt Padikkal got starts, while Kohli was scratchy. Noor Ahmad dominated the batters, engineering a middle-order collapse. Rajat Patidar rode his luck to a crucial fifty, and Tim David’s finishing gave RCB a competitive total.

Josh Hazlewood struck twice in the second over of the match, which set CSK back. Yash Dayal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Liam Livingstone gave him excellent support, as no CSK batter could maintain the required tempo to chase 197. MS Dhoni struck a few boundaries at the end, but they only served to reduce the margin of defeat.

If RCB win this match, it will mark the first time in IPL history that they have completed a season double over CSK.
