Without a hint of doubt, Mumbai Indians are among the most successful teams in the Indian Premier League, and their aggressive style of play has earned five titles in the tournament’s history – a joint record alongside Chennai Super Kings. These trophies haven’t been a fluke, but go on to show how the franchise is very picky in terms of adding the best talent to their kitty ahead of every season.

However, due to the mega auction dynamics, MI had to let go a few of its players, who now find themselves shining bright for other rival teams like Royal Challengers Bengaluru, CSK, among a few. In this article, CricTracker discusses performances of five players who were previously a part of Mumbai Indians, but IPL 2025 has seen them plying their trades for other franchises.

Here are performances of 5 ex-MI players in IPL 2025

5. Marco Jansen (now Punjab Kings)

The tall and lanky South African pace-bowling all-rounder was part of the MI squad in 2021 before playing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the last three seasons. He is now part of the Punjab Kings in this current tournament and has been an important player for them with his ability to bowl on tracks that offer a lot of bounce and also score some runs lower down the order when required.

Marco Jansen has had a slightly decent season so far, where he has taken eight wickets in as many games and has played some handy knocks down the order for the Shreyas Iyer-led side. He has scored 68 runs this season at an average of 34.00 and striking at 130.76. Courtesy of all-round show, PBKS have maintained the podium on the IPL 2025 Points Table.

4. Jofra Archer (now Rajasthan Royals)

Jofra Archer featured in five games for the MI franchise in 2023 and was going through injury concerns as well. This season, he was called back into the Rajasthan Royals (RR) team in the mega auction for a huge price. Archer is currently one of the fastest bowlers in the world and though he did not have the best start to the season he seems to have bounced back strongly now.

The English speedster has taken nine wickets in as many encounters this season, where he has an average of 34.44 and has an economy of 9.25. Though this might not be a groundbreaking season for him, the fans have witnessed a glimpse of his true potential with the white ball.

3. Krunal Pandya (now Royal Challengers Bengaluru)

Krunal Pandya has represented the Mumbai franchise from 2016 to 2021 and has enjoyed some great seasons with which also includes three titles. Krunal was part of the Lucknow Super Giants between 2022 and 2024 but is now donning the Bengaluru jersey and has made an instant action to be noted, especially with the ball.

The swashbuckling all-rounder might not have given great performances with the bat, but his bowling spells have proven to be more than good for the 2016 finalists, with 12 wickets in nine games so far. His ability to stem the flow of runs is quite evident as he has had an economy of just 8.85, which is great, especially for someone who has bowled the majority of his games in Bengaluru. He has 24 runs with the bat in the limited opportunities he got.

2. Nehal Wadhera (now Punjab Kings)

Nehal Wadhera was scouted by MI and represented the franchise in the preceding two seasons, where he had shown his ability to hit the ball long and hard. He was not retained ahead of the mega auctions, which is when Punjab Kings snatched the local boy, and he seems to be playing some significant knocks for the franchise that currently is among the top-ranked sides on the table.

Though Nehal is yet to play a big innings, his crucial contributions in the middle-order have helped Punjab’s cause more often than not thus far. The 24-year-old southpaw has scored 189 runs in the seven games he has played and is averaging 37.80 and has a strike rate of 146.51 in the ongoing season.

1. Tim David (now Royal Challengers Bengaluru)

The power of Tim David was felt in the last three years, where he was an important part of the MI franchise. David could hit sixes on demand, and though it was surprising to see that he was not retained or bought back, the Australian power-hitter has not held back from his range-hitting for Royal Challengers Bengaluru as well.

David has proven himself as a dangerous batter down the order once again, where he has so far scored 165 runs at an exceptional average of 82.50 and has a phenomenal strike rate of 187.50. He has only been dismissed once in the tournament so far
