Nehal Wadhera pulled out late from Mohammed Shami’s delivery during Match 27 of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Saturday, April 12. The right-arm quick had already let the ball go when the 24-year-old backed away.

Shami had the middle stump flattened with that particular delivery, which was declared as a dead ball by the on-field umpires. The SRH pacer was understandably displeased despite Wadhera raising his hand in apology. The subsequent delivery was a slower delivery, which was pulled to a deep backward square leg for a single.

Wadhera was dismissed in the very next over. IPL debutant Eshan Malinga trapped the southpaw in front of a full and fast straight ball on the stumps. It was a seemingly straightforward decision from the on-field umpire, who had no hesitation in raising his finger. However, the Hawk-Eye replay later went on to show that the ball would’ve just missed the off stump.

Earlier in the evening, PBKS got off to a flyer of a start after winning the toss and opting to bat first. They ended up amassing 89 in the powerplay. Priyansh Arya was dismissed on the final ball of the fourth over, but only after bludgeoning 36 off 13 deliveries. Skipper, Shreyas Iyer, was the star of the show. He racked up 82 off 36 deliveries in an innings which comprised six fours and as many sixes.

At the time of writing, PBKS ended their 20 overs on 245/6. After Wadhera’s dismissal, there was a slight halt in proceedings with Shashank Singh (two off three) and Glenn Maxwell (three off seven) not being able to get going. A rapid-fire Marcus Stoinis knock (34* off 11) enabled PBKS to end on a sweet note. SRH require 246 to not suffer their fifth loss on the bounce.
