Mumbai Indians (MI) roped in Raghu Sharma as a replacement for the injured Vignesh Puthur. The left-arm wrist-spinner was ruled out of the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) due to an unspecified injury.

The 24-year-old Puthur made his IPL debut in MI’s first match of the season against Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk. He came in as the Impact Player and picked up the wickets of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shivam Dube, and Deepak Hooda to give MI hopes of defending a 156-run target after the hosts got off to a blazing start inside the powerplay.

Puthur played five matches for MI this season and accounted for six wickets at an average of 18.17 and a strike rate of 12. His economy rate was a decent 9.08. He bowled just one over in MI’s clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 23. Puthur went on to miss the five-time champions’ most recent clash against Lucknow Super Giants.

Raghu Sharma, born on 11 March 1993 in Jalandhar, Punjab, is a right-arm leg-spin bowler. He has played for Punjab and Puducherry in domestic cricket. In 11 first-class matches, Sharma has picked up 57 wickets at an average of 19.59, with best bowling figures of 7/56. In List A cricket, he has claimed 14 wickets in nine matches, with best figures of 4/37. He has also featured in three T20 games, bagging as many wickets.

This is set to be Sharma’s first-ever appearance in the IPL. He joins the Hardik Pandya-led side at his base price of INR 30 lakhs from the RAPP (Registered Available Player Pool) list.

MI look to extend winning streak against Rajasthan Royals

After a slow start to the season, MI have rapidly moved up the points table and currently find themselves only behind Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings. They are on a five-match winning streak.
