Punjab Kings (PBKS) stormed into their first-ever Indian Premier League (IPL) final after an 11-year hiatus, defeating five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) by five wickets in Qualifier 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. With this win, PBKS have set up an exciting final clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on June 3, where one of these two franchises will finally lift the coveted IPL trophy after 18 years of participation.

MI, put to bat first, suffered an early setback as veteran opener Rohit Sharma departed early. But, Jonny Bairstow continued his excellent form from the previous match, scoring a quick-fire 38 off 24 balls before being dismissed by Vijaykumar Vyshak in the first over after the powerplay ended.

Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma then stabilized the innings with a 72-run partnership off 42 deliveries. Both batters contributed 44 runs each, which gave MI a healthy run rate. In the death overs, Naman Dhir played a terrific cameo, smashing 37 off 18 balls to take the Hardik Pandya-led team to a total of 203/6 in their 20 overs.

In response, PBKS had a shaky start as they lost Prabhsimran Singh early. But, Priyansh Arya showed some promise with a 20-run knock before falling. Then Josh Inglis took on Jasprit Bumrah, smashing 20 runs in a single over, and went on to score 38 off just 21 balls.

PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer then led from the front, compiling a brilliant 84-run stand in just 47 balls alongside Nehal Wadhera. The left-handed batter chipped in with a vital 48 off 29 balls before getting out, but Iyer ensured their team victory without any hindrance.

He displayed immense power-hitting, and anchored the chase with a magnificent unbeaten 87 off 41 balls, including eight sixes and five fours, and took PBKS home with five wickets in hand. Naturally, Iyer was the Player of the Match for the mind-boggling display through his maruading blade at Motera.

The clash between PBKS and RCB in the IPL 2025 Final will see the crowning of a first-time IPL champion.
