Lucknow Super Giants registered a 33-run win over Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Match 64 of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League on Thursday, May 22. This marked their first victory after four consecutive defeats.

Batting first, LSG’s openers put on 53 runs in the powerplay without any fall of wickets. Aiden Markram (36 off 24) was the first to fall on the fifth ball of the 10th over. Mitchell Marsh crushed Rashid Khan for 25 in his first over and powered his way to a maiden IPL ton. He ended up getting dismissed after scoring 117 off 64 deliveries. Nicholas Pooran finished with a majestic 56* off 27 deliveries. The visiting side ended up posting a formidable 235 for 2 at the end of the first innings. Mohammed Siraj was the most economical bowler with 0/37 from his quota of four overs.

In response, GT’s chase saw Sai Sudharsan (21 off 16) fall within the powerplay. Shubman Gill (35 off 20) and Jos Buttler (33 off 18) headed back by the halfway stage. Sherfane Rutherford (38 off 22) and M Shahrukh Khan (57 off 29) provided hope to the hosts. However, Will O’Rourke’s 3for 27 in his four overs was what proved to be the difference at the end, as Lucknow went home with a 33-run win at Motera.
