Shreyas Iyer’s composed fielding display helped Punjab Kings (PBKS) draw first blood in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, June 3.
After being asked to bat first, Phil Salt gave RCB a brisk start, smashing a four and a six off Arshdeep Singh’s first over. The England wicketkeeper-batter hit Kyle Jamieson for a delightful boundary in the second over.
However, off the fourth ball, he tried to hit the New Zealand bowler over his head for a maximum. Salt was nowhere near the pitch of the ball, but he went through with his hands. However, the ball hit the bottom half of his bat and went a long way up in the air.
Shreyas took a few steps to his right while back-tracking before turning in front to face the pitch. He got himself into a steady position and held onto a tricky catch to give PBKS a huge breakthrough. It was a massibe breakthrough as Salt, who was dismissed for a nine-ball 16, could have caused a lot of damage in the powerplay.
