IPL 2025: Akash Deep joins Lucknow Super Giants' camp following recovery from back injury

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have received positive news as pacer Akash Deep joined their camp ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 clash against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Friday, April 4. The 27-year-old fast bowler has recovered from a back injury that had kept him out of action since December 2024. His arrival came at the right time as LSG have been struggling with injuries to their pace attack.

The side suffered a tough start to IPL 2025, winning just one out of their first three matches. A major concern for the team has been their bowling department, which has been affected by injuries. Speedster Mayank Yadav has been dealing with a toe injury on top of a lumbar stress issue.

Meanwhile, Mohsin Khan has been ruled out of the entire tournament due to an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear suffered in December 2024, bringing Shardul Thakur as his replacement. Avesh Khan, another pace option, has returned from an injury layoff but has yet to hit peak form.

The 28-year-old last played during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, where he suffered a back injury. Since then, he has undergone rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, alongside Jasprit Bumrah, who is also recovering from a back issue.

The fast bowler has previously played in the IPL for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), featuring in one game during the 2024 season. Since making his IPL debut in 2022, Akash has played a total of eight matches, picking up seven wickets. LSG secured Deep for a whopping INR 8 crore at the IPL 2025 auction.

Although the pacer has joined the LSG camp, it is not confirmed whether he will be included in the playing XI against MI. His match fitness and rhythm will be factors in deciding whether he gets the nod.
