As the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL) approaches its decisive phase, teams are pulling out all stops to secure a spot in the playoffs. With 60 matches already played, the competition has been intense, swinging between batters and bowlers. While batters initially took the spotlight, bowlers are now stepping up, balancing the game. With 10 matches left and three playoff spots at stake, excitement mounts with each game.

Here’s how the fate of teams stands after the 60th game:

1. Kolkata Knight Riders

At the top of the points table sit Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), boasting 18 points from 12 matches. They have clinched victory in nine. They have secured a playoff berth, their focus now shifts to securing a top one finish and they will be waiting for their opponent in Ahmedabad.

2. Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals (RR) trail behind KKR with 16 points, but the superior net run rate keeps them in contention. Having won eight out of 11 matches, they face Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk. A victory would strengthen their hold on a top-two position, enhancing their prospects in the playoffs.

3. Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have emerged as formidable contenders in IPL 2024, overturning batting odds with their reliance on a robust batting lineup. Out of 12 matches, they’ve clinched victory in seven games, amassing 14 points. They now aim to break into the top two positions, signalling their intent in the competition.

4. Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) face a challenging scenario after a defeat to Gujarat Titans in Match 59, putting their playoff aspirations in jeopardy. With six victories out of 12 matches, they currently hold 12 points. With just two matches remaining, they must secure wins in both and rely on Lucknow Super Giants’ misfortunes to keep their playoff hopes alive.

5. Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals (DC) are eyeing a playoff berth following CSK’s loss to GT. Their situation mirrors CSK’s, but their weak net run rate could pose a hurdle if they suffer another defeat. With six wins in 12 matches, they’ve accumulated 12 points. To secure a top-four spot, they need CSK to lose against RR while winning both their remaining matches.

6. Lucknow Super Giants

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are in the mix for a top-four finish alongside CSK and DC. However, their poor net run rate could prove costly if CSK and DC keep winning. With six wins from 12 matches, they have 14 points. But any more losses in their remaining two games will likely end their playoff hopes.

7. Royal Challengers Bengaluru

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have demonstrated their strength with four straight victories, staying in contention for the playoffs after defeating the Punjab Kings. To continue their playoff push, they rely on the misfortunes of CSK, DC, and LSG. With five wins from 12 matches, they currently hold 10 points.

8. Gujarat Titans

Gujarat Titans (GT) stayed alive in the playoff race with a crucial victory against CSK, putting them in contention. They’ve secured five wins in 12 matches, accumulating 10 points. However, their playoff hopes hinge on several favourable outcomes, compounded by a negligible net run rate.

9. Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians (MI), anticipated as a strong team pre-IPL 2024, have faltered with only four wins in 13 matches, gathering eight points. They faced early elimination from the league, and their recent defeat to KKR in Match 60 has added to their woes, leaving them in search of redemption.

10. Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings (PBKS) encountered a string of setbacks after a promising start. With their captain sidelined for much of the league, the top order failed to deliver crucial runs. They became the second team to exit the league, managing only four wins in 12 matches, totalling eight points.
