IPL 2024: MS Dhoni’s old tweet resurfaces following Vizag blitzkrieg against Delhi Capitals

Match 13 of IPL 2024 was a tale of firsts for the two competing franchises — the Delhi Capitals’ first victory of their campaign and the Chennai Super Kings’ first loss of the season. In what was a match characterized by some brilliant individual performances, one display stood out in particular, being the talk of the town in no time whatsoever. 

It’s none apart from the pyrotechnics of MS Dhoni, who rolled back the years with his insanely power-packed innings (37 off 16), a knock laced with 4 fours and 3 sixes, which was incidentally his first of this season. Every shot leaving the bat of the veteran was cheered by the entire crowd filling the stadium, irrespective of which team they were rooting for. Even in defeat, Dhoni’s explosive display for CSK captivated attention, reigniting fascination with a decade-old treasure from his social media vault.

On March 24, 2014, 23 days before the commencement of the league’s 2014 edition, Dhoni had taken to X (then Twitter) to express that he really didn’t have an issue regarding which team wins the tournament, because he was there for amusement, and not so much for the cricket.

Dhoni has been one of the crowd favourites for a long time now. His cricketing brilliance on the field has also made ground staff, the unsung heroes of hosting a cricket game, fall in awe of the Ranchi-born cricketer.

Following the culmination of the match of DC against CSK at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam, Dhoni was captured as the nucleus of the ground staff, who were seen running from all parts of the outfield to get a click alongside the cricketing icon, with Dhoni surrounded by the gleaming lot in a heart-warming picture that went viral on social media in a flash.
