1. Why has Nitish Kumar Reddy pulled out of the Asian Games squad?

Nitish Kumar Reddy, who was originally part of the Asian Games squad, has been withdrawn from that assignment and included in the ODI squad for the West Indies series. The selection committee named Reddy as the principal pace-bowling all-rounder in the 15-member ODI group led by Shubman Gill.

This decision could point to the BCCI looking to groom Reddy for the longer formats, where they believe he could thrive. However, he has also been included in the T20I squad for the same series, meaning he will be involved across both formats during the West Indies tour.

 

2. Why has Kuldeep Yadav made a comeback to the T20I squad?

The T20I squad for the West Indies series includes Kuldeep Yadav, who had been absent from India’s T20I squads for the series in Ireland, England, and Zimbabwe. His return to the shortest format comes in the same announcement that confirmed Varun Chakravarthy’s absence.

While questions could be posed regarding whether Kuldeep’s return comes as compensation for Chakravarthy’s absence, the left-arm wrist spinner will be looking to put up good performances to keep his name in contention once more. 3. Why no Jasprit Bumrah for the white-ball series?

Jasprit Bumrah is absent from both ODI and T20I squads but is part of the Asian Games squad, which runs from September 24 to October 3 in Japan. The ace speedster’s absence is notable considering he is back from his knee injury and has been bowling at his previous level once more.

The Asian Games overlap explains the ODI unavailability, but no official BCCI statement was issued explaining the decision to rest Bumrah from the T20I leg of the West Indies series as well. Bumrah’s absence could perhaps point to the need to keep him fit for the upcoming series in New Zealand, where India will play two Test matches.
