In a resounding display of dominance on the cricketing stage, India clinched their eighth Asia Cup title in remarkable fashion. On the sunlit evening of September 17, 2023, the Men in Blue annihilated Sri Lanka by a whopping 10 wickets at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. This staggering victory unfolded with India bundling out their opponents for a meager 50 runs, followed by an emphatic chase that left 263 balls unconsumed in their innings.

Shoaib Akhtar, the former speed demon from Pakistan, didn’t hold back his admiration for Rohit Sharma’s captaincy prowess, commending the Indian skipper for his exemplary decision-making skills. He went on to predict a formidable future for Team India. Shoaib effused,

“Rohit Sharma’s captaincy has improved. He and the team management have been making great decisions. I did not imagine India beating Sri Lanka in this manner. From here on, India could be the most dangerous side in the World Cup, but I am not writing anybody off because teams from the sub-continent are formidable,” Akhtar expressed on his YouTube channel.

Akhtar lauds Siraj and proclaims India favourites for World Cup

The Rawalpindi Express also directed his applause towards the impressive Mohammed Siraj, who decimated the Sri Lankan batting order with a remarkable six-wicket haul. He hailed “Miyan’s” pivotal contribution and lauded his generosity, as the young pacer selflessly handed his Player of the Match prize money to the hardworking ground staff. The Pakistan speedster had an intriguing change of heart, initially regarding India as underdogs, he now views them as the favorites. He exclaimed,

“Good job Siraj, you helped India win. And you did a great job by giving away your prize money to the ground staff. India will be going into the World Cup after boosting their confidence. India started as underdogs, but now I feel that it is not only a worry for Pakistan, but a worry for many other countries. India have announced their arrival in the World Cup because they have all the boxes ticked.” Akhtar concluded.

Following their triumphant Asia Cup campaign, India is now set to lock horns with Australia in a riveting three-match ODI series, set to commence on September 22. Cricket enthusiasts worldwide are undoubtedly in for an exhilarating spectacle as these cricketing giants collide, setting the stage for a pulsating season ahead.
