Virat Kohli became the fastest batter to reach 16,000 runs in international cricket in the Asian subcontinent on February 12. He achieved the landmark en route to his 52-run knock against England in the third and final ODI of the ongoing series. A single to deep third on the final delivery of the 12th over of India’s innings guided him to get to the 16,000-run mark. He was India‘s second wicket to fall, succumbing to Adil Rashid.

Having made his international debut in Colombo in 2008, Kohli’s innings on Wednesday was his 340th in Asia. Consequently, Kohli became the fourth batter and the fastest to make his entry into the esteemed list, comprising the likes of Sachin Tendulkar (353), Kumar Sangakkara (360), and Mahela Jayawardene (401).

Gill ton powers India to 356

Speaking on the ongoing game, England are in pursuit of 357 to extract a consolation win. Shubman Gill registered his seventh ODI ton during the day. The top-order batter continued his love affair with Ahmedabad, adding 116 and 104 for the second and third wickets with Kohli and Shreyas Iyer, respectively. Gill was dismissed for 112 by a Rashid delivery which crashed onto the stumps.

Meanwhile, India have secured an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series with convincing wins in Nagpur and Cuttack. The fixture in Ahmedabad is the last outing for the two teams before heading into the eight-team Champions Trophy, which kickstarts in Pakistan from February 19. The tournament will be played in a hybrid format, with UAE named the neutral venue following India’s reluctance to travel to Pakistan owing to the strained political ties between the neighbouring nations.
