Captain Rohit Sharma has emphatically asserted that the seasoned spinner Ravichandran Ashwin remains an integral part of the national squad’s plans as a spin-bowling all-rounder in the white-ball format. This proclamation comes on the heels of a rather untimely injury setback suffered by Axar Patel during India’s clash against Bangladesh, which left his quadriceps strained. BCCI promptly summoned Washington Sundar as a replacement.
Addressing the pressing issue at a press conference, skipper Rohit Sharma shed light on the situation, saying,
“As a spinner-all-rounder, Ashwin is in the line. I have been talking to him on the phone. The injury happened to Axar at the last minute. Washington was available, so he had to come and perform the role for us.”
