Mahendra Singh Dhoni announced his international retirement on August 15, 2020. With this, he drew curtains on a spectacular career that spanned 15 years. The former India skipper led the national team for almost 10 years before fully relinquishing the role in 2017. The right-handed batter is now only seen playing for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL and he has revealed that he does not miss international cricket.

The veteran last played for India in the World Cup 2019 semifinal against New Zealand in Manchester. Though India bowed out of the tournament after losing to the Kiwis, it was also the last time Dhoni was seen wearing the blue jersey. After over five years since he was last seen in action for the Indian team, the 43-year-old revealed that he is content with the retirement decision and has no qualms about it.

“I thought I will get more time, but sadly, I haven’t got much time. I don’t miss international cricket because I always believe you know you think about everything then you take a decision. Once you have taken a decision no point really thinking about that. So I am very happy with God’s grace whatever I was able to do for my country,” said Dhoni on Eurogrip Tyres YouTube channel.

“Other than that, it has been fun. I have been able to spend a lot of time with friends, I can do a lot more motorcycle rides, not the long ones, that’s something very close to my heart. It has been good, family time, daughter questioning when you are coming back,” he added.

Although retired in 2020, Dhoni was briefly part of the Indian dressing room in different respects. He donned the team’s mentor role during T20 World Cup 2021, which was held in the United Arab Emirates. Unfortunately, India were ousted from the group stages of the tournament after they lost the games against New Zealand and Pakistan.
