‘I am always ready, let’s see what is in my destiny’ – Shoriful Islam on Mackay Test return

Shoriful Islam has recovered from a hamstring injury sustained during Bangladesh’s tour of Zimbabwe and is now available for selection in the second Test against Australia at Mackay. The 24-year-old pace bowler missed the first Test at Darwin but travelled to Australia and watched his teammates secure a historic nine-wicket victory at Marrara Stadium from August 13 to 17. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto confirmed that Shoriful has passed his fitness test ahead of the Mackay Test scheduled from August 22 to 26 at Great Barrier Reef Arena.

Speaking to reporters in Mackay on Wednesday, August 19, the pace bowler expressed his readiness for selection and his willingness to accept whatever role awaits him in the squad.

“I am always ready. Let’s see what is in my destiny, InshaAllah, and hopefully I can play the match,” Shoriful said.

Shoriful cleared for Mackay after passing fitness test

Shoriful remained emotionally invested in Bangladesh’s performance throughout the Darwin match despite being unavailable for selection. He explained his connection to the team’s historic achievement and the support he offered from the sidelines during the first Test.

“I’m very happy to have been part of such a victory. At least I made it into the pictures (laughs), even though I wasn’t in the squad. It feels really good,” the left-arm seamer said.

The pace bowler’s commitment to the team’s campaign extended beyond his presence in the squad. He revealed that he actively supported his teammates throughout the Darwin match and celebrated their success as if he had played a direct role in the victory.

“I always prayed for the players who were playing, that they would give their best and that we would win. When we won the match, I was happier than anyone else in Bangladesh,” he added.
