The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially confirmed the prize money for the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023–25 Final and released a promotional video featuring top cricketing stars to build excitement ahead of the clash.
India, even though displayed a strong performance throughout the cycle, did not qualify for the final and ended their campaign in third place. The team played 19 Tests, winning nine, and accumulated 114 points with a 50.00 percentage points. India will receive a prize amount of USD 1,444,000, which roughly translates to INR 12.30 crore.
This year, the ICC has increased the prize pool and nearly doubled the winners’ payout compared to the previous two WTC cycles.
The final is scheduled to take place from June 11 to 15 at Lord’s Cricket Ground, and will feature defending champions Australia facing off against South Africa.
The WTC 2023–25 champion will receive an amount of USD 3,600,000 (INR 30.75 crore approx), while the runner-up will take home USD 2,100,000 (INR 18.46 crore approx). This is a significant increase from the previous editions, where New Zealand (2021) and Australia (2023) earned USD 1.6 million each for their victories, and the losing finalists took home USD 800,000.
ICC Chair Jay Shah extended his best wishes to the finalists and commended the high-quality cricket displayed across the WTC cycle. He acknowledged that the championship has served as a platform for exceptional performances from players representing various teams around the world.
“We have witnessed a very interesting third cycle of the ICC World Test Championship, where the finalists were decided only towards the end of the competition. The championship has showcased remarkable performances from players of different teams, culminating in a final between these two exceptional squads – a true celebration of cricket,” Shah said.
