Gujarat Titans’ (GT) spin wizard Rashid Khan applauded Shubman Gill’s captaincy in the ongoing IPL 2025. Gill, who missed out on his century by 10 runs in the previous match against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), has been amazing with his batting approach this season. He struggled to get runs at the start of the innings, but ended up scoring 90 runs off 55 balls, hitting 10 boundaries and three sixes.

GT won against the Kolkata-based franchise by 39 runs, after scoring 198 runs in the first innings. Interestingly, the Gujarat-based franchise is currently at the top of the points table with six wins in eight games, and is closest to qualifying for the play-offs.

Rashid praised the right-handed batter for the calmness he brings on the field and the way he manages the team, the bowlers, and the environment. As per the Afghanistan player, Shubman has all the qualities of a great leader.

Shubman has a very bright future as a leader, not just as a batter but in the way he thinks and understands the game. He comes with a plan. He’s very calm, and when you see him on the ground—the way he manages the team, the bowlers, and the overall environment—I think he has all the qualities to be a great leader. He’s captaining in such a big league, and I think the pressure here is even more than the World Cup. This is the best opportunity for him as a captain to perform under pressure and take bold decisions,” said Rashid on JioHotstar.

Rashid Khan shares his journey with GT in the IPL

Rashid Khan also spoke about his journey with the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the IPL. He has been a part of the Gujarat-based franchise for three years now and has contributed immensely with the bat and the ball and was one of the main reasons why they won the title in 2022.

“Since I joined this team, the coaching staff and players welcomed me so well. I never felt like I had played for another team for five years before. That’s when the family atmosphere formed, and I started enjoying the game a lot more. My performance improved, and I got more opportunities—even with the bat. It’s very important that when you’re in a team, you get some responsibility and there’s open discussion,” added Rashid.
