Popular franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) faced flak on social media for letting Mohammed Siraj and Will Jacks leave in the IPL 2025 (Indian Premier League) mega-auction. The franchise only bought Liam Livingstone from the marquee list and was criticised on socials for not bidding enough for KL Rahul, who joined Delhi Capitals for INR 14 crore. However, RCB’s Director of Cricket, Mo Bobat, seemed unfazed about the backlash and spoke about the importance of having the right strategy.

Bobat noted that they were calm when egos were flying in the auction and players were getting staggering amounts of money. He stated that the franchise was happy with their shopping and added that the batting unit looks powerful, especially after signing Phil Salt, who scored 435 runs in 12 matches for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2024. He also revealed to be happy after signing Livingstone for INR 8.75 crore, Jitesh Sharma for INR 11 crore and Josh Hazlewood for INR 12.50 crore.

“Interesting day. Lots of money spent early which was interesting to watch. The key things with things like these are I think you have got a real strategy of what you want to get. You got to stay calm when a few of the egos are flying around and people are trying to buy, buy players with extortionate amount of money. At the end of the day, we’re pretty happy with what we’ve got, We’ve spent a lot of time thinking about how we want to play, we really want to have a very powerful batting line-up,” Bobat said in a video posted by RCB.

“To have secured the likes of Phil Salt, we saw how special he was last year. Liam Livingstone through the middle which we wanted to reinforce and strengthen. Really happy with those and to get Jitesh Sharma as well, really happy with that. High-quality Indian player, real power down the order, someone who might be able to replicate DK’s finishing and from a bowling perspective, obviously great to get Hazlewood back,” he added.

RCB are yet to appoint a Captain for IPL 2025 season

Meanwhile, speaking of RCB, the Bangalore-based franchise are yet to announce their Captain for the upcoming IPL 2025 season. However, as per reports, Virat Kohli is likely to be back at the helm of things yet again.
