Bengaluru police revealed how Virat Kohli was dragged into the Bengaluru stampede case, following a complaint registered regarding his potential involvement. HM Venkatesh, an activist, raised a complaint against the RCB star at the Cubbon Park Police Station, although no First Information Report was filed against him by the aforementioned individual.

As per Venkatesh, Kohli promoted gambling through the IPL and claimed the league had contaminated the game of cricket. Police stated that Venkatesh believed Virat incited people to gather at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, which led to the tragedy. The activist requested the police to file an FIR against the RCB opener.

“IPL is not a sport but a gambling that has contaminated the game of cricket. Virat Kohli of the Bangalore RCB team is the most prominent among those who participated in such gambling and incited people to gather in a specific place and caused this tragedy. Therefore, we request you to please make Virat Kohli and his team members accused in the FIR of this tragedy and take action,” Venkatesh said in his complaint as per the Hindustan Times..

It is evident from the complaint that Venkatesh’s grievance had nothing to do with the Bengaluru stampede incident. However, the police at Cubbon Park Station have assured that they are working to solve the case along the lines of the ongoing stampede investigation.

So far, four people from the RCB management have been arrested. Nikhil Sosale, one of the key members of RCB’s social media team, was arrested along with three others who were part of the DNA Agency, which organised the event. The Cubbon Park police and the Central Crime Branch (CCB) conducted a joint operation to ensure they remain in judicial custody for 14 days.

On the other hand, KSCA officials have been granted interim relief by the Karnataka High Court, excluding them from the FIR in the case. Sosale has challenged his arrest in the Karnataka High Court, claiming it was made without prior enquiry or proper evidence.
