ENG vs IND 2025: ‘Trademark’ – Shubman Gill trolled brutally by netizens following Manchester dismissal (Source: JioHotstar)
The dismissal of Shubman Gill on Day 1 of the fourth Test of the ongoing five-match series between England and India has sparked a lot of discussions on social media after the batter departed pretty cheaply in the first innings. The No. 4 batter did not offer any short to an incoming delivery from Ben Stokes to be trapped in front for 12 off 23 at Manchester, as India lost their third wicket in the post-Lunch session at the Old Trafford.
This was Gill’s third back-to-back sub-20 score after a blistering start to the series. He had scored two centuries (147 and 161) and a stellar double-ton (269) in his first four innings of the ongoing tour. At the end of the third Test, the Punjab-born had already shattered former batting maestro Rahul Dravid’s 23-year-old record of most runs for India in a Test series in England.
The skipper was the third Indian batter to be dismissed in the second session of the opening day, after the top-order duo of Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul had gone unscathed in the first session. The Indian skipper fell just three overs before Tea. India ended up on 149/3 in 52 overs at the end of the second session, with Rahul (46 off 98) and Jaiswal (58 off 107) back in the shed already.
The 25-year-old broke all sorts of records after amassing 430 runs in the second Test at Edgbaston. India ended up winning the match by 336 runs, and the Indian skipper was adjudged the Player of the Match accolade for his record-shattering outing. He has been off colour ever since that match, and India and him would be hoping for him to come good in the remainder of this series.
There have been no complaints on his leadership, though. The Fazilka-born has demonstrated a composed approach while on the field. He has also shown glimpses of aggression when necessary, akin to his predecessors, all of which have come as a refreshing development for the Indian team.
