Champions Trophy 2025: Sourav Ganguly bats for team India to win the tournament

Champions Trophy 2025: Sourav Ganguly bats for team India to win the tournament

The Champions Trophy 2025 is poised to get started on February 19, 2025. The month-long tournament will be played across venues in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates. The marquee tournament is returning after an extended hiatus of eight years. Ahead of the event, former Indian cricketer, Sourav Ganguly, felt that India would be a force to reckon with at the prized tournament. The legendary captain also felt that Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma, would fire all cylinders in the tournament.

“I think India are one of the contenders in the Champions Trophy, especially after their performances in the 50-over World Cup and the T20 World Cup. But Test cricket is something they will need to work on, particularly when playing away from home. Rohit, in white-ball cricket, is phenomenal. You will see a different Rohit Sharma once the Champions Trophy starts,” shared Ganguly during a conversation with RevSportz on Monday, January 20.

At the same event, he also discussed ace batter Virat Kohli’s future in white-ball cricket. The erstwhile president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India expressed that he was quite surprised by the way Kohli’s recent tour of Australia passed by. The former skipper expressed confidence that Kohli would be back to his run-scoring best in the Champions Trophy.

India will kickstart their Champions Trophy campaign against Bangladesh. The 15-member squad for the eight-nation tournament was released on Saturday. The past two editions of the same event have been quite successful for the national setup. Under the leadership of MS Dhoni, India won the 2013 edition. They came runners-up in the subsequent edition in 2017, losing to arch rivals Pakistan.

With Indian cricket going through the turmoil it has undergone in the past few months, expectations would be high from the squad selected for the Champions Trophy. The roster appears to be stacked with high-profile players in both the batting and bowling department. Majority of the cricket fraternity, much like Ganguly, would be expecting India to go all the way this time around.
