However, with only a single rest day before India’s semi-final on March 4, the team may prioritize the veteran opener’s recovery. If the skipper is rested, Gill will be seen taking the leadership role. The 24-year-old has been in exceptional form, scoring a century against Bangladesh and a solid 46 against Pakistan.
The Punjab-born has prior captaincy experience, leading India in the T20I series against Zimbabwe last year. Meanwhile, if Rohit is unavailable, the bigger question is, who will open alongside Gill? KL Rahul is a natural option, having played as an opener in the past. Another possibility is Rishabh Pant, who has opened in white-ball cricket before. Washington Sundar is also in contention for a spot.
