Champions Trophy 2025: Rohit Sharma confirms he’s not retiring from ODIs

Champions Trophy 2025: Rohit Sharma confirms he's not retiring from ODIs

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has officially put an end to speculations surrounding his ODI future, confirming that he has no plans of retiring from the format. After leading India to a historic Champions Trophy 2025 win against New Zealand at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, March 9, he said: “I want to clarify that I am not going anywhere, I am not retiring from this format.”

Rohit’s retirement had been a hot topic throughout the tournament, especially after he decided to step away from T20Is after India’s World Cup victory in June 2024. Many expected him to follow a similar path post Champions Trophy victory, especially considering his age and workload management. However, the 37-year-old quashed all such rumors, stating his desire to continue playing in the 50-over format.

The Nagpur-born’s leadership has been important in India’s success. Under his leadership, the side has reached four ICC finals, lifting two major titles, the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy.

In the Champions Trophy final against New Zealand, he led from the front, smashing 76 off 63 balls, giving a solid start for chasing 251. Despite Kiwis fightback, the Men in Blue held their cool to clinch the trophy with a four-wicket win.

Speculations about Rohit’s future first emerged during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy when he opted out of the Sydney Test. Many reports claimed that he might retire after the Boxing Day Test, but has cleared all the doubts.

“Let’s see. It is what it is for now. That’s all there is,” he added.
