South Africa and Australia were forced to split points after their Group B clash in the Champions Trophy 2025 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, February 25, which got abandoned due to incessant rains. The two captains couldn’t even come out for the toss as they had to be content with one point apiece.

South Africa remain at the top of the points table with three points from two games and a net run rate (NRR) of +2.140. Meanwhile, Australia also have three points from two matches, but their net run rate stands at +0.475. Interestingly, this is the fourth no-result/abandoned game for Australia in their last eight appearances in the Champions Trophy.

While Group A has already been decided, with India and New Zealand booking their tickets to their semi-finals, the washout in Rawalpindi complicates proceedings in Group B. England and Afghanistan, who are present in Group B, will now hope for better conditions in Lahore, which has been experiencing persistent rain on Tuesday.

England-Afghanistan will be eliminator game

The England versus Afghanistan clash has turned into a virtual knockout clash, as the loser is set to become the third team to be eliminated from the ninth edition of the tournament after Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Group B fixtures will come to an end on March 1 when South Africa will clash with England at the National Stadium in Karachi. The first semi-final is set to be played at the Dubai International Stadium on March 4. Meanwhile, the second semi-final will be held at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on March 5. The summit clash will be played on March 9.

India and New Zealand are the only teams who have managed to win all their games so far. Meanwhile, Bangladesh and Pakistan have suffered defeats in both their matches. England and Afghanistan are also winless and they would want to get off the mark on Tuesday.
