Champions Trophy 2025: England vs South Africa, Match 11: Stats Preview of player records and approaching milestones

Match Overview

The final group stage match for Group B in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025, will witness England (ENG) and South Africa (SA) will lock horns with widely different objectives in mind.

Notably, England are already out of the tournament while South Africa still have a chance of making the semifinals and a good one at that. England have lost both their matches in the tournament – to Australia and Afghanistan respectively – and are looking to salvage some pride. South Africa are technically unbeaten in the tournament after their match against Australia was abandoned without the toss following their win over Afghanistan.

Both teams’ performance in the last match

South Africa’s match against Australia was abandoned due to rain without even the toss and England went down to Afghanistan in a thriller. Ibrahim Zadran broke Ben Duckett’s record for the highest individual score in the Champions Trophy after Afghanistan lost early wickets. Azmatullah Omarazai and Mohammad Nabi gave the final flourish in the backend of the innings to lead Afghanistan to 325.

England too lost two early wickets, but Joe Root held the fort with his first ODI century since June 2019 and kept the Three Lions in the game despite running out of partners. Although Root’s dismissal sparked a collapse, England’s lower order kept them in the chase until the very last over where Azmatullah Omarazai’s fifer decided the match in Afghanistan’s favour.
