In a latest development, England have named their squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler has been announced as the captain to lead the side at the marquee event. The same 15-member squad, picked by the selection panel, will also travel to India for the three ODIs in February 2025, just weeks ahead of the eight-team tournament.
Meanwhile, star cricketer Ben Stokes could not make the cut for the squad since the all-rounder is under assessment following a left hamstring injury that showed up during the recent third Test versus New Zealand. The news of Stokes’ unavailability was confirmed by the England Cricket Board (ECB) via a media release, which was made public on Sunday, December 22.
The release also confirmed that the English team will leave for the white-ball tour against India on January 17 and reach four days ahead of the first of the five T20Is.
“Durham all-rounder Ben Stokes was not considered for selection as he continues to be assessed following a left hamstring injury sustained during the third Test match against New Zealand earlier this month,” the ECB release read.
