Champions Trophy 2025: 8th Match, Afghanistan vs England - Stats & Records at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore

Two teams whose semi-final hopes are hanging by a thread will face each other in Match 8 of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Afghanistan and England both lost their first games in the tournament and will now face each other in a bid to not be eliminated early from the tournament.

Afghanistan are playing the Champions Trophy for the first time, and went down rather anti-climactically to South Africa. Ryan Rickelton made a century, well supported by three other fifties to take South Africa to a tall total. South Africa’s bowlers then took over striking at regular intervals and killing the Afghan chase before it ever got going despite a valiant 90 from Rahmat Shah.

England’s opening encounter against Australia, on the other hand, was as dramatic as possible. Ben Duckett broke the record for the highest individual score in the Champions Trophy and led England to what, at the time was the highest team total in the tournament. Australia lost early wickets in the chase, but Matthew Short and Alex Carey’s fifties kept them in the game. The real kicker, came from Josh Inglis who equalled the record for the fastest century in the Champions Trophy to lead Australia to a historic record chase.
