BCCI chews over Stephen Fleming's appointment as Head Coach of Team India

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to rope in former New Zealand captain, Stephen Fleming as the Head Coach of the Indian Men’s Team. The present coach, Rahul Dravid’s tenure will end at the culmination of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The new coach will serve the team for three and a half years until 31st December 2027.

The Chennai Super Kings coach has been a trademark figure in the coaching arena. He has successfully steered the franchise to five titles in the Indian Premier League. Moreover, he is the longest-serving coach for any franchise in the IPL having been at the helm for 16 years. Having worked closely with the Indian players in his coaching stint, the 51-year-olf could be the tailor-made candidate to hold the high-profile job at the Indian cricket team.

Dravid unlikely to re-apply for coaching duties

Rahul Dravid’s tenure as the coach was estimated till the culmination of the World Cup 2023. But the veteran’s stint was further extended to five months. While he has an option of re-applying for the role, chances look slim. Another name that is being projected vehemently is of former India batter, VVS Laxman.
