The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is working to bring back cricketers Nahid Rana and Rishad Hossain from Pakistan as soon as possible. The BCB had earlier stated that they are closely monitoring the condition of their players who are currently participating in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
A drone strike near the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Thursday forced the postponement of two matches and raised serious concerns among overseas players. Both cricketers have expressed their unwillingness to continue in the league by pointing out the safety concerns.
“The Board is working closely with both the PCB and the Bangladesh High Commission to make certain that the cricketers feel safe and secure during their stay in Pakistan. Furthermore, the BCB is coordinating with the relevant authorities to ensure that all arrangements are in place to facilitate the eventual departure of the players from Pakistan in a timely and secure manner,” said the BCB in an official statement released on Thursday.
The Board also confirmed it is in constant communication with both players.
“The BCB attaches the highest priority to the safety and security of its players,” the statement added.
The tensions have escalated in the countries following the ‘Operation Sindoor,’ an air strike conducted by India on Pakistan, which has further increased safety concerns for cricketers. The Indian Premier League (IPL) is currently underway, and these developments have also put pressure on the BCCI and players to ensure safety protocols.
Several IPL venues have received bomb threats, which prompted authorities to increase security measures. Recently, the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, which is home ground of the Rajasthan Royals (RR) have received a bomb threat via email and sparked concerns about whether the matches scheduled in the venue should proceed or be relocated.
The clash between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Mumbai Indians (MI) was moved from Dharamshala to the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad due to security considerations.
