Two teams, Hobart Hurricanes and Sydney Thunder, who have occupied the first and the second spot respectively in the ongoing Big Bash league 2024-25 have dealt injury blows. Key pacer, Billy Stanlake of Hurricanes, ruled out of the remainder of the BBL with a fractured shoulder and will not be seen playing for the franchise this season.
On the other hand, Thunder have lost the serviced of their bowling all-rounder, Daniel Sams. He has suffered a side strain during the game in which he was concussed. Sam had collided with his teammate Cameron Bancroft while fielding, he was concussed and asked to complete a 12-day concussion protocol. But in the same game, he suffered side soreness.
“I just want to express my gratitude and thanks to everyone who has supported me throughout my recovery. The messages of encouragement and care have meant so much to me during this time,” said Sams, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
“I’m super disappointed not to be out there on the field, contributing to the success the boys are having and being part of the push for the title. But I’m incredibly proud of this group and excited to see what they can achieve for the rest of the season,” he added.
Hurricanes injury row continues
On the other hand, during the Hurricanes game against Melbourne Renegades, Stanlake injured his right shoulder while diving for a catch in just the third over of the game. Though he completed the catch, he landed on his bowling shoulder. He tried bowling his second over despite pain, but had to evade after sensing severe pain.

After he underwent scans, it was confirmed that he has incurred a fracture in his right scapula, and he has been ruled out of the rest of the BBL. Hurricanes are already dealing with the injuries of Ben McDermott and Lain Carlisle in the tournament.
