BAN vs ZIM 2025: Anamul Haque returns as Bangladesh name squad for second Test in Chattogram

BAN vs ZIM 2025: Anamul Haque returns as Bangladesh name squad for second Test in Chattogram

Following an extremely disappointing loss at home in the first Test against Zimbabwe, Bangladesh have now called for Anamul Haque as the preferred opener for the second game. Notably, the in-form batter has been called as a replacement for Zakir Hasan, who did not get a chance in the Sylhet encounter. Meanwhile, the Najmul Hossain Shanto-led side has also replaced ace pacer Nahid Rana with Tanvir Islam, who is yet to debut in the format.

Rana, despite making a decent outing in the opening game – where he took three wickets in the first innings, has been sidelined owing to his commitments in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 with Babar Azam-led Peshawar Zalmi. As a result, Islam, the left-arm spinner who average 27.06 in First Class cricket has been called for the series finale, but his inclusion in the Playing XI seems doubtful due to a packed side.

Coming back to Anamul, the right-handed batter made his red-ball debut in 2013 in the series against Sri Lanka at home, but remained on the sidelines after playing just four games. He did make a comeback in June 2022, but had a poor showing in the comeback game as well, which had him dropped once again. However, some stellar form at the top of the order in the domestic 50-over competition has helped his cause once again, and the batter would hop to not let the selectors down this time round.

The second Test is scheduled to be played at Chattogram’s Zahur Ahmed Choudhary Stadium from April 28 and the hosts will be looking to end the series on level terms with a win in the upcoming clash. Zimbabwe, on the other hand, would be looking to return home with a series whitewash, which would create history for the African nation in the format.
