Zimbabwe eked out a thrilling three-wicket victory in the first Test against Bangladesh at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, April 23. With that, the visitors won a Test match after four years.
The Zimbabwe finally bowled out the Bangladesh team for 255 in the second innings on Day 4 and despite the efforts of skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto and Jaker Ali, the side was not able to put up a formidable target on the board as the visitors needed 174 to win the first Test of the two-match series. It was Zimbabwe pacer Blessing Muzarabani who starred with the ball, taking 6/72.
While chasing the target, openers Brian Bennett and Ben Curran gave a great start and put pressure on the Bangladesh bowlers straightaway. There were some problems caused by the spinners, who got the home team back in the game. However, it was not enough to stop the Zimbabwe batters from chasing the total down, thanks to the incredible resistance from Wessly Madhevere, who provided the finishing touches at the end as Zimbabwe took the lead in the Test series.
Muzarabani stars as Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s 10-wicket haul goes in vain
This was a game that was dominated mostly by the bowlers, and the star with the ball for the Zimbabwe team was Blessing Muzarabani who took a total of nine wickets in the match taking three wickets in the first innings and six in the second to make sure his team got a chaseable score in the end. His overall figures were 9/122 in the game.

The star with the ball was on the losing side and it was none other than Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz who took five-wicket hauls in both innings. This 10-wicket match haul might have helped in keeping the hosts in the game but it was all in vain as he was not supported by the other bowlers in the second innings who failed to make major breakthroughs.
